Recently I had the pleasure to document Social Distortion and Flogging Molly’s last stop on their summer 2019 tour. After receiving the call and working out my equipment 2 hours before the show, my inner 13-year-old self couldn’t believe it. I just wanted to grab my skateboard, ipod nano, and go shred!
After arriving and having another fan crush with the other photographer in the pit with me, MLB legend #51 himself, Randy Johnson. I met up with Mike Ness of Social D and Dennis Casey of Flogging Molly for their pre show boxing training. Their tour manager Mick, also personal trainer, started the training with some laps and bag time followed by sparing. These dudes are beasts! I was impressed, but yeah, slightly intimidated. But they broke the ice and educated me on the workouts and why they were important.
After boxing everyone cleaned up and prepped for the show. Social D went on first followed by Flogging Molly. Both lit up the Amphitheater with amazing performances and held nothing back from their audience. In the end we concluded the night with a quick interview and said our goodbyes.
It’s always a pleasure meeting and photographing talented people. This was definitely not my typical shoot, but I felt at home. It was super exciting, rewarding, and full of great connections. Thank you so much Social Distortion and Flogging Molly, I truly hope our paths cross again.
